Two teams to be announced on Sept 2

Chairman of the selection committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India Kishen Rungta today confirmed that the selection of the teams for the Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and the Sahara Cup at Toronto in Canada, would be announced here on September 2.

Rungta arrived in Madras to watch the 22 probables at the first preparatory camp under consultant Bobby Simpson and coach Anshuman Gaekwad. Three other selectors, Pandov, Shivlal Yadav and Sambaran Bannerjee were also present. The other member, former coach and captain Ajit Wadekar, will join them tomorrow morning.

Watching the players at the M A Chidambaram stadium, Rungta said that the composition of the teams were not yet clear. No clear decision has been taken as to who will be in which team, he said.

"We will be selecting the teams on September 2," Rungta said. And that would be after Wadekar's arrival, he said.

It may be recalled that the BCCI had sparked off a controversy by first indicating that a team may not be sent to the Commonwealth Games, where cricket is being introduced for the first time, since the dates clashed with those of the Sahara Cup.

Later, it said a team would be picked for the games under the direct aegis of the International Cricket Conference.
