Last updated on: June 3, 2010 13:47 IST

A squad of Special Operations Group of Jammu and Kashmir Police spotted these solar missiles, positioned for a offensive action in Gujjarpati forest area of Kupwara district. Reportedly, suspected militants brought these missiles from a hideout.

"During operation we have recovered two missiles of latest technology which works on solar technology," said Sajad Arshid, Station House Officer, Sogam Police Station.

"In Gujjarpati forest area, militants of Lashkar-e-Tayiba had fixed two solar missiles of new type to launch attack on army installations. We first defused the missiles with the help of the bomb disposal squad and after that we had seized the missiles. We have registered a case," said Muhammad Yousuf, Superintendent of Police, Kupwara District.

Experts believe that these projectiles could have been used to carry out a major terror strike in the area.
