It has been a relatively peaceful day in Kashmir.  Three youth were injured, one of them critically in security force firing in north Kashmir Sopore town Friday even as the Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel staged a flagmarch in parts of summer capital Srinagar on Friday afternoon.

Security forces guarding the camp opened fire injuring three protesters one of whom identified as 20-year old Ramiz Ahmad Reshi, who had a critical bullet injury. He was shifted to Soura medical institute.

Doctors said he was being operated upon, but his condition was very critical. A huge mob later surrounded the police post immediately after the firing after more protestors joined them mob.

Police had to fire teargas and baton charges at some places to disperse the mobs who defied curfew restrictions. In the Soura locality of the capital city, mobs defying curfew restrictions burnt an effigy of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah after staging a demonstration.

In the Natipora locality of the capital, a senior ruling National Conference leader announced his resignation from party amidst loud cheers by the local residents who shouted pro-freedom and anti-India slogans.

Mobs torched a panchayat building in the Bhaghate Kanipora area of the capital city Friday afternnon. For the first time, authorities deployed RAF personnel in the summer capital Srinagar this afternoon.

The RAF personnel mounted on vehicles staged a flag march on a nearly two-km stretch from Dalgate to Nowpora.

Three companies of this anti-riot force have been specially despatched to Srinagar on Omar Abdullah's request.

"The flag march was conducted to instill confidence among the people," Prabhakar Tripathi, CRPF spokesman told this correspondent.
