A TV news channel journalist, who reported on the rain and flash floods in Uttarakhand while perched on the shoulder of an affected villager, has been sacked, the channel head said on Wednesday.

"We have sacked him day before yesterday (Monday). We don't advocate such practises. We have not aired that visual," Nishant Chaturvedi, channel head at News Express told PTI.

Narayan Pargaien, reporting on the rain ravage in Uttarakhand, triggered outrage after a video clip went viral on the internet showing him giving a piece to camera while squatting on the shoulder of a survivor.

Pargaien claimed the survivor, seen wobbling under the strain while standing in ankle-high water, had hoisted him on his shoulders as a sign of respect.
