An earthquake of 4.9 magnitude shook the Kashmir Valley on Saturday but there were no reports of any loss in the tremor, officials said.

The moderate intensity tremor, which was recorded at 3.09 hours on Saturday morning, had its epicentre in Hindukush mountain range in Afghanistan, Coordinator of Disaster Management Cell Aamir Ali said. He said the location of epicentre was 36.58 north (longitude) and 70.93 east (latitude).

Kashmir lies in the highly earthquake-prone Seismic Zone V.

A devastating earthquake of 7.4 magnitude had flattened the border areas of the Valley on October 8, 2005, leaving more than 1,300 persons dead and many more injured.
