The Bhartiya Janata Party Parliamentary Board in New Delhi on Thursday unanimously decided that there was a need for a change in the party leadership in Karnataka, and advised Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa to resign from his office.

The meeting was held at party president Nitin Gadkari's residence and was attended by senior leaders such as L K Advani, who chaired the meeting, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley, M Venkaiah Naidu, Rajnath Singh and other members of the parliamentary board.

At the end of one
hour long meeting party spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad told mediapersons about the decision.

"The parliamentary board has advised the chief minister to resign from his post immediately. Arun Jaitley, leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha, and Rajnath Singh, former president of BJP, would go to Bangaluru on Friday to cover the election of the new leader," he said.

A source said that Yeddyurappa had an inkling of what was coming to him, and had decided to fly back to Bengaluru early in the morning.
