A local court in north Kashmir Sopore on Tuesday extended the police remand of a female student arrested on charges of acting as an over ground worker for militants of Lashkar-e-Tayiba outfit.
The female student, Quratul Ain, was arrested by Sopore police and was produced before a local court in Sopore town. "Sopore police has arrested Qurat-ul-Ain of Jalalabad Sopore on the charges of providing safe house, logistic support and acting as a courier for foreign militants especially LeT commander Abdullah Uni," a police spokesman said.
"Today she was produced before the court. The court after perusing the evidences produced by the police extended her police remand by seven days till July 26. Her role in the recent attack on the Sopore police station is also being investigated", he said in a statement.
"Her activities were under constant surveillance as she was initially working as an OGW for LeT militant Hamza Zubair and after his death for Abdullah Uni. Hamza was killed in an encounter with police and security forces on June 21 at Bagat Batpora in Sopore," the statement said.
"The police investigation shows her being in constant contact with the militant commander. She has worked as a courier for providing hawala money to many OGW's at different places in the Valley", the statement said.
The hardline separatist leader, Syed Ali Shah Geelani has threatened protests if the female student was not released immediately.
