Former Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy's son Jaganmohan on Wednesday filed an application with the Election Commission to form a new party.

The move comes a little over a month after he quit the Congress, alleging that the party leadership, including president Sonia Gandhi, had 'insulted and humiliated' his family.

Sources close to Jagan told rediff.com that initially the former member of Parliament from Kadapa had considered naming the outfit the YSR Congress party, but had later changed his mind.

After a series of discussions, Jagan's supporters felt that the name of his new party should comprise YSR but not Congress. A final call on the name will be taken soon, said insiders.

All the formalities of launching a new party will be completed soon, before the by-elections to the Pulivendala assembly constituency and the Kadapa Lok Sabha constituency, which were represented by YSR's wife Vijayamma and Jagan respectively, before they tendered their resignations.

Jagan has indicated that he would contest these seats on a ticket from his new party.

The final date for the by-elections has not been decided by the Election Commission yet.

Jagan and his supporters have also decided to wait for the meeting on the Shrikrishna Commission report on Telangana before they make their next move on the issue. They want to gauge the reactions of the people to the panel's report before taking a stand on the issue.
