Maharashtra Navnirman Sena president Raj Thackeray on Friday said he was not aware of any talks about forming an alliance with main opposition parties, Shiv Sena and Bharatiya Janata Party.

"I am not aware of what stories are doing rounds about the alliance...at least I should have been consulted first," Raj, who is in Nagpur in connection with a court case, said.

Prominent BJP leaders from Maharashtra, Gopinath Munde and party president Nitin Gadkari, have indicated that they are willing to have a tie-up with MNS, but Shiv Sena, Raj's former party, has dismissed the idea offhand.

Raj said neither he nor his party had taken any stand on the issue. He said he was concentrating on forthcoming municipal elections, at present.

However, Raj hit out at Sena without naming it. "Opposition has virtually surrendered," Raj said, adding it seemed it had been `managed' by the ruling alliance.

Thackeray said state government should learn a lesson from Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on governance.

As a part of preparations for forthcoming municipal polls, an MNS team will visit Marathwada in the first week of March and meet a cross-section of people, like teachers, editors, social workers, etc, to gauge the mood. Later it will visit Vidarbha.
