Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will begin his indefinite fast on Sunday to highlight several demands made by the state which are pending with the Centre.

Chouhan would begin his indefinite fast from 12 noon on Sunday along with a large number of party workers, the state Bharatiya Janata Party's media in-charge Dr Hitesh Vajpayee told reporters.

Chouhan will observe an indefinite fast against the Centre as issues like providing relief to frost-hit farmers, inadequate coal supply and poor state of national highways among others have been ignored, he said.

The chief minister has also written a letter to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seeking his intervention to sort out the issues concerning the state.

Meanwhile, the Janata Dal - United said that Chouhan's decision to go on fast is 'unconstitutional'.

"Chouhan's fast will trigger off a constitutional crisis," Madhya Pradesh JD-U chief Govind Yadav said in statement. He argued that it was mandatory for the chief minister to take the governor's consent before going on fast.

"If the chief minister is facing any problem while doing public good, he should inform the governor according to the Constitution," he said.

The governor should immediately intervene in the matter, the JD-U statement said.
