D Sadananda Gowda will be sworn in as the new chief minister of Karnataka on Thursday at 4.30 pm, according to a communication from the Raj Bhavan.

After much political turmoil, the warring factions within Karnataka Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday elected Gowda as the next CM, in the wake of Yeddyurappa quitting his post after he was indicted in the Lokayukta report on illegal mining.

The communication also stated that Sadananda Gowda had met Governor H R Bharadwaj after being selected as the new leader. The Governor has accepted the candidature and invited him to be sworn in as the CM.

Although Gowda will be sworn in on Thursday, the appointment of a deputy chief minister will take place in a day or two, as discussions within the BJP over the post have not concluded yet.

The candidate most likely to make it as the deputy chief minister is Jagadish Shettar, who lost a secret ballot to Gowda on Wednesday.
