Delhi Police on Wednesday claimed to have completed the security deployment at the Commonwealth Games venues.
Delhi Police chief Y S Dadwal has personally taken charge of the deployment of over 1 lakh personnel drawn from the city police, Central Reserve Police Force, Rashtriya Rifles and other paramilitary forces to ensure that all loopholes are plugged.
Confirming the development Delhi Police Public Relations Officer Rajan Bhagat told rediff.com that with less then five days to go for the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games, security has been put in place.
"We are satisfied with our job," he said.
Asked if the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium's inner cordon had been handed over to the army to provide security cover to athletes and officials from the 71 participating countries and the public which is expected to turn up in large numbers to attend the opening ceremony at the venue, Bhagat said he was in no position to say anything about it.
"Please ask the Indian Army about it," he said.
Following intelligence inputs on a possible terrorist air strike on Games venues, the Indian Air Force has swung into action, pressing into action about two-dozen helicopters.
Fighter aircraft have been kept on alert to deal with any eventuality in case the enemy tries to break the security cordon.
Anti-aircraft missiles have been put in place to protect Delhi from any terrorist attack.
Radars at Delhi airports and air bases near the city would keep a close eye on any potential threat.
IAF's Chetak and Cheetah helicopters would fly at the height of 6-10,000 feet all the time throughout the duration of the Games. They would be assisted by MI-17V1 and MI-35 attack helicopters.
