SC's Ayodhya order inexplicable, says CPI-M

September 24, 2010 19:26 IST

The CPI-M on Friday said it was "inexplicable" why the Supreme Court stayed by a week the Ayodhya title suit verdict as the matter could not be settled out of court.

"It is inexplicable why the bench of the Supreme Court has decided to defer the verdict being given as there is no possibility of any settlement outside the court on this issue," party general secretary Prakash Karat told PTI.

Reacting to the apex court's decision to stay for a week the title suite verdict, CPI-M leader Sitaram Yechury has also said that while negotiations and reconciliation were always welcome, "In all these years this has not been achieved. How can one expect to achieve this, that too within a week?"

"How much we may wish that it will happen and if really it happens it is very good. But in that pretext, I do not think we can go on and postpone an issue which can be counter-productive. That we don't want to happen. So we are appealing that no one should get provoked. Whatever the judicial verdict, in a secular democracy, everyone should accept it," Yechury had said yesterday.

The Supreme Court has stayed for a week the Ayodhya title suit verdict that was due to be pronounced by the Allahabad High Court today. The apex court will hear the plea for deferment of the judgment next Tuesday.
