This cell is in addition to the Special Operations Wing which is already functional on the terrorism front, officials said.
The cell will focus on the "movements of suspicious persons" in the city and police inspector Sunil Tambe, who is heading the SOW, will also be in charge of the new squad, Assistant Commissioner of Police Anant Shinde said.
The measure has been taken in view of the increased terrorist activity in the Pune region.
Meanwhile, police authorities have cracked the whip on the mushrooming unlicensed cyber cafes in the city following revelations that the German Bakery attack plan had been hatched at a internet cafe in Udgir in the Marathwada region.
The blast at the popular eatery in Koregaon Park in Pune on February 13 killed 16 people and left over 60 injured.
