The moderate faction of Hurriyat Conference said that 'Eid packages' from the centre will not help in resolving Kashmir issue and that people of the state, as it existed on August 14, 1947, should decide its future.

"Kashmir is an issue concerning the people living in five regions -- three under Indian control and two under Pakistani control. The state should be united as it existed on August 14, 1947 and its people decide the future," Mirwaiz said addressing the congregation at Jamia Masjid in Srinagar.

Mirwaiz said thecentre cannot "suppress" the Kashmir issue by use of force.

On the possible withdrawal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in some parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Mirwaiz said Kashmir does not need 'Eid Packages' or political packages.

"We do not want Eid packages, political packages, job packages or concessions. We want the Government of India to accept the people of Jammu and Kashmir as the basic party to the dispute," he added.

Rejecting bilateral talks for resolution of Kashmir issue, Mirwaiz said there were only two ways of resolving the long pending dispute. Either the United Nations resolutions on Kashmir have to be implemented or talks involving all the three parties -- India, Pakistan and leadership of Kashmir have to be held, he said.
