A telephone call threatening to blow up the famous Sreekrishna Swamy temple in Guruvayur is keeping the Kerala police on its toes.

A special police team has been deployed in and around the famous temple town and is conducting thorough investigation into the issue.

The police, according to sources, is leaving no stone unturned, as Guruvayur is one of the most famous temples in South India and a threat on this temple cannot be taken lightly.

The Kerala Police is also coordinating with the central intelligence agencies to ascertain the veracity of the threat.

Lodges and hotels in and around Guruvayur are being searched.

It may be recalled that Union Home Secretary GK Pillai, during his recent visit to Kerala, had given warning the state police's higher-ups to seriously take into consideration the coordination achieved at the ground level between Maoists and certain Islamist groups.

The Union Home secretary also warned about the recent increase in the activities of the Maoist movement in and around Wayanad forest areas.

Several officials of multi-national companies and blue chip companies based out of Kochi have toldĀ rediff.com that they receive some NGO activists from Wayanad every month who want aid to the tune of Rs 3000 to 5000, and would ultimately settle for Rs 1000.

This, according to company officials, is for 'activism' on nature conservation and other environment related issues.

State police and intelligence agencies are taking this lead to identify organisations, which are facilitating the Maoist activities in the state.

With the threat to Guruvayur temple coming up, the police is also verifying antecedents of the Maoist couple, Rajesh and Shiny who are in hiding.
