At least four persons were killed and 16 others injured in a stampede on Saturday night that broke out during a ritual at a Durga temple in Bihar's Banka district on the occasion of 'Navratri' festival.

Around 30,000 devotees had thronged the temple at Tildiha village under Sambhuganj police station area for offering prayers when the stampede occurred, DGP Neelmani told PTI in Patna.

Four devotees died on the spot while 16 others were injured as people started running and trampling each other after some rumours. The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital, he said, adding that senior officials have rushed to the spot.
