Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said she was happy with the preparations for the Commonwealth Games.
Asked what was her reaction soon after she visited the CWG village and saw the pathetic conditions of the rooms Dikshit said that she was shocked.During our meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who stepped in to save the games, Dikshit claimed that " I saw dogs all over the games village. Some of the rooms were in shoddy condition. The material was not proper. At places the glass door in the balconies could come off, putting the lives of the athletes in danger."
While refusing to blame any particular department or ministry, Dikshit came down heavily on Mike Fennel and Mike Hooper for interfering in the construction work and not owning up the responsibility.
She admitted that the country's prestige was badly hit when the foot bridge mcollapsed. The Delhi CM said that she did not like the manner in which the media handled the stories highlighting deficiencies and did not say anything good about the games. "Everyone one worked hard. Now I am looking forward to the games," she said.
