Drug probe: Goa cops may visit Sweden

May 14, 2010 16:45 IST

The Goa police are planning to visit Sweden to record the statement of Swedish model Lucky Farmhouse, who used a spy-cam to expose the drug peddler-police nexus in the state, crime branch sources said. The sources confirmed that they have sought financial approval for the visit, which is very crucial to investigate the case.

"The file is with the home department. Once the approval is granted, we will send an officer to Sweden to meet Lucky at her residential address," a senior officer said.

Lucky, who had exposed the links of her boyfriend drug-peddler Atala alias Yaniv Benaim with the Goa police, had told the police that she is ready to visit the state only in August. Deputy Superintendent of Police (crime branch) Chandrakant Salgaonkar had said they cannot wait till August to get the statement.

The crime branch has also written to Lucky asking her to advance her visit, sources said. Deputy Inspector of General of Police Ravindra Yadav told PTI that the police could consider visiting Sweden if Lucky fails to turn up.

Lucky had said that she has video footage evidence of the police-drug peddler nexus in the state. The 33-year-old model, who was living in with Atala, had shocked the Goa police after she posted clippings showing her boyfriend bragging about his contacts with the police on youtube.

The clippings triggered a major crackdown on the police- drug peddler nexus, which saw Atala and six other policemen, including a police inspector, arrested for their links with the drug mafia.

Another policeman is on the run after he was booked under the prevention of corruption act and Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. The drug peddler-police nexus controversy had forced the Goa police to change the way they stock the drugs seized after the seizures.

Home minister Ravi Naik had said that the force would get to the bottom of the case. Lucky had also claimed that the son of a senior politician had visited Atala at their place in Goa.

"I can identify him if I see him," she had said.
