Rahul Gandhi to take Bill Gates to Amethi

May 11, 2010 01:31 IST
In what was seen as a huge surprise for his constituents, Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi will visit his parliamentary constituency of Amethi with Microsoft chief Bill Gates. The visit was kept a closely guarded secret until the news broke out late on Monday evening.

Even top UP Congress leaders were unaware of the visit, as Gandhi had preferred it to be a completely quiet affair, away from the media's gaze. It is learnt that Rahul proposes to take Gates to the same village where he spent a night along with British Foreign Secretary David Miliband in a hut belonging to a poor dalit.

While no one knows about the purpose of the visit, Congress sources in Lucknow claimed that Rahul had arranged a meeting between Gates and womens' self-help groups formed by him in his constituency.

The duo will take a chartered flight  from New Delhi and land at the Indira Gandhi Flying Academy in Fursatganj around 1000 hrs following which they would drive down to Amethi, about 45 km away.
