Chiranjeevi does not sympathise with Telangana: TRS

May 06, 2010 01:05 IST

Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi lacks sympathy for Telangana though he says that he is equally concerned about all regions of Andhra Pradesh, TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao has alleged.

"Chiranjeevi supports united Andhra Pradesh. He says he is concerned about all regions of the state. If that is true, then why did he start campaigning for national project status to Polavaram irrigation project that benefits only coastal regions," Rao told reporters.

He made the comments when asked about the 'bus' yatra undertaken by Chiranjeevi demanding national project status to Polavaram irrigation project.

When pointed out that Chiranjeevi had announced plans to campaign for national status to 'Pranahita-Chevella' project in Telangana as well, Rao claimed that the PRP president would have campaigned for 'Pranahita-Chevella' first if he really cared for the region.

The Indira Sagar irrigation project at Polavaram in West Godavari district, popularly known as Polavaram project, cannot be given national status as it is disputed by Orissa and a case is pending in the Supreme Court, Rao contended.
