Sonia will be responsible for UPA's failure: BJP

March 29, 2010 22:14 IST

With Congress president Sonia Gandhi appointed the chairperson of the National Advisory Council, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday night claimed she has become part of the Union government and sought to bring her in the firing line for the acts of 'omission and commission' of the Centre.

"The immediate implication would be that becoming a part of the United Progressive Alliance government, Gandhi will be directly responsible for all acts of omission and commission of the government, including its failure to check rising prices," BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman told PTI.

She said Gandhi will now also be answerable for the manner in which the Manmohan Singh government is moving ahead with the bill on nuclear liabilities.

Gandhi was today made chairperson of the NAC again, four years after she quit the post in the wake of the office of profit controversy.

Gandhi, who is also the chairperson of ruling UPA, will enjoy the rank of Cabinet minister. Her tenure would be co-terminus with that of the NAC.
