No prima-facie case against Modi: BJP

March 28, 2010 17:47 IST

Terming "unacceptable" and "unfortunate" the demand for resignation of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi following his questioning by the SIT in the 2002 riots case, senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday said there was "no prima-facie" case against him.

"Even before the SIT submits its report to Supreme Court, the Congress is mounting pressure asking Modi to step down. The demand for his resignation is unacceptable and unfortunate because prima-facie there is no case against him," Naidu told reporters.

No body has been convicted and how they can make such irresponsible statements and demands, he added.  Mere deposition before the SIT did not amount to being guilty, he said, adding the demand for Modi's resignation was "unwarranted."
