The police remand of two arrested terror suspects Abdul Latif Rashid and Riyaz Ali Imtiaz was on Friday extended till April 1 after the Anti-Terrorism Squad sought their custody.
The duo was arrested by the ATS on March 13 for allegedly planning to carry out terror attacks in the metropolis. According to the ATS, the duo was in touch with a person in Pakistan addressed as 'uncle', who is suspected to be Abdul Bashir Khan, an absconding accused in the 1993 serial bomb blasts and a close aide of prime conspirator of the blasts Tiger Memon.
The duo was directed by 'uncle' to recruit young boys and arrange for them to be sent to Pakistan for training and to carry out terror attacks in India. The ATS on Friday, while seeking further custody of Abdul and Riyaz, who were produced before the Mazgaon metropolitan magistrate, said it wants to find out if the duo had arranged for any people to be sent to Pakistan.
Magistrate B S Chavan remanded the two to further police custody till April 1. The duo had allegedly conducted reconnaissance of three targets -- headquarters of public sector petroleum company ONGC, Thakkar Mall in suburban Mumbai and Mangaldas Market in south Mumbai.
