Two infiltrators were killed on Wednesday morning when security forces foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control in the Keran sector of Kupwara district.
A defence spokesman said army troops guarding the LoC spotted a group of militants trying to infiltrate into this side.
"The infiltrators were challenged to surrender upon which they opened fire, triggering a gunfight during which two infiltrators were killed," the spokesman said.
"Searches in the area are continuing although the firing has stopped," he added.
