Passengers of Jet Airways flight 9W 461 had a miraculous escape when one of the aircraft's engines filed soon after take-off from Mumbai airport on Wednesday.

The Boeing 737-700 aircraft, headed for Chennai with 106 passengers on board, made an emergency landing at the Mumbai airport at around 1914 hours IST.

As per official statement issued by the airline, there was a technical problem with one of its engines and all the passengers and the flight crew had alighted safely.

"The decision to bring back the aircraft to Mumbai was taken as a precautionary measure in line with Jet Airways' globally benchmarked safety standards," said the Jet Airways statement.

An alternative aircraft was arranged to ferry the passengers to their destination.
