Aviation security regulations tightened

The detection of a prohibited item on Kingfisher flight IT 4731 has led to the the Chennai regional office of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) to issue a fresh set of guidelines to all airlines and agencies concerned. The guidelines issued are as follows:

Passengers and staff entering the operational area should be subjected to thorough frisking and baggage should be checked in accordance with BCAS regulations.

All vehicles entering the operational area and its occupants be thoroughly checked.  Patrolling should be intensified.

Anti-sabotage checking, searching of entire area and sit aside check-in should be undertaken at regular intervals.

Manual checking of hand baggage should be be intensified.

Inline baggage screeners should be alerted to look for prohibited items and to take necessary action.

Surveillance by security staff should be maintained.
