Acting on a tip off by Central Security Agencies, 29-year-old Abdul Latif alias Guddu and 23-year-old Riyaz Ali were arrested from near Matunga railway station in central Mumbai on Saturday night, ATS chief K P Raghuvanshi told media-persons.
"We have established that their targets were ONGC, Thakkar Mall and Malgaldas Market. They wanted to execute their terror plans soon. Their plan included setting them on fire," he said. Thakkar Mall is located in suburban Borivali while Mangaldas Market is situated south Mumbai.
The police did not specify which ONGC installation the duo planned to target.
The ATS produced the two before the Esplanade Magistrate's court at noon on Sunday and they have been remanded to police custody till March 18. According to sources in ATS, police have recovered maps and other documents that need to investigated, from the duo. There have been also unconfirmed reports that the two suspects were planning to attack the ONGC officer's quarters in Bandra.
