Giving a new twist to his campaign against the Women's Reservation Bill, Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav on Friday said the SP wanted only 20 per cent quota and that too not for seats but for political parties to give tickets for the fair sex.

"We are in favour of (women) reservation but we don't want more than 20 per cent (than 33 per cent as prescribed in the bill). In that 20 per cent also, parties should be given the right to decide on the seats to be given to women," he told CNN-IBN.

The Women's Reservation Bill envisages 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament and state assemblies. It was passed by the Rajya Sabha early this week.

Denying that he has ever demanded a quota-within-quota, the SP chief said, "This is a false propaganda."

Yadav said the tickets for women should be distributed by parties only and 'those (parties) who do not give 20 per cent of election tickets to women, their registration should be cancelled.'

The Shiv Sena has also favoured the political parties reserving tickets for women candidates rather than seats being reserved for them.
