Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav sprung a surprise on Friday saying that he supported reservations for women and that he did not want a "quota within quota".

Mulayam, however, said he wanted the percentage of reservation to be reduced to 20 percent in place of the proposed 33 percent.

He also demanded that the reservation must be introduced at the party-ticket level instead of at the constituency level.

The SP chief had, along with Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and Janata Dal-United chief Sharad Yadav, had put up a vehement protest against the Women's Bill over the last few days.

He had earlier demanded that the Bill must also introduce reservations for Mulsim and Dalit women within the 33 percent quota for women.
