Suspected Shiv Sena activists vandalised the Bombay Natural History Society headquarter in south Mumbai on Thursday night, demanding that the word 'Bombay' be replaced by 'Mumbai' in the society's name.

Armed with bamboo sticks, nearly 40 Sainiks marched into the premises and vandalised the society's signboard by taking off the 'B' from 'Bombay' in the name, said the police.

They even put up banners in Marathi with the changed name 'Mumbai Natural History Society'.

Nobody has been arrested in connection with the incident so far, said the police, adding that the society has not lodged any complaint so far.

Incidentally, the 126-year-old BNHS is located near the Maharashtra police headquarters in south Mumbai.
