PML-N opposes operation against Taliban

March 09, 2010 00:12 IST

The opposition PML-N has opposed the Pakistan government's campaign against the Taliban, saying it is being waged to protect the "interests of the US".

Senior PML-N leader Saranjam Khan made the remarks during an interaction with reporters in Mardan district.
"We are against this war as only innocent Pashtuns are being killed in this global war. The PML-N is opposed to taking up guns against the Taliban," he said.

If the US could hold talks with insurgents in Afghanistan, Pakistan too should have a dialogue with the Taliban to stop the killing of Pashtuns, he said.

This region will remain unstable unless the "core issue of Kashmir" is settled between Pakistan and India, Khan claimed.
