The ties between the Telugu Desam Party and the Telangana Joint Action Committee came under strain on Monday with the latter alleging that the main opposition party has an ambivalent stand on the statehood demand.
"The inference we can draw from the yesterday's (Sunday) clash between lawyers and the TDP cadre is that the TDP wants to continue with its unclear and ambivalent stand on the Telangana issue.
Even if the party exits from JAC, we will continue our agitation," JAC convener C Kodandaram said.
The JAC convener and other Telangana supporters took exception to TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu's support to both the separate statehood demand as well as the demand not to divide the state.
The TDP, like the ruling Congress, is vertically split on the Telangana demand with leaders voicing the demands of their respective regions.
Reacting to the reported allegation of Chandrababu Naidu that the Telangana lawyers and the JAC were being remote-controlled by someone, Kodandaram said it was an insult to the Telangana supporters.
The reason for the strain in the ties between the TDP and the JAC is the Sunday clash between TDP workers and lawyers. Demanding that Naidu clarify whether he supported separate Telangana or united Andhra Pradesh, the lawyers interrupted his speech at a protest organised by his party.
Condemning Naidu's allegation that they disturbed the TDP's protest on Sunday at the behest of another party, the lawyers said they did not belong to any party.
They called for all advocates in Telangana region boycotting courts tomorrow in protest against the "attack" allegedly by the TDP workers.
The lawyers also called for boycotting products of Heritage Foods being promoted by the family members of Naidu till he tendered an "unconditional" apology over the Sunday incident.
