Pak violates ceasefire again, fires at LOC posts

March 02, 2010 17:27 IST

Violating the ceasefire, Pakistani troops fired rockets and used heavy machine guns on Indian posts along the Line of Control in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Pakistan troops fired several rockets followed by firing by heavy machine guns on five Indian forward posts of Kranti, Kranti 1, Kirpan, Ghora and Deep along LoC in Mendhar sub-sector of Poonch district on Monday night, Brigadier General Staff Gurdeep Singh said on Tuesday.

The indiscriminate firing and rocket attacks came from Pakistan posts of Battal and Daku across the LoC in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir.

The firing began from 8.55 pm on Monday night and ended at 12.15 am on Tuesday.

"It is clear ceasefire violation by the Pakistan troops," Singh said, adding that Indian troops had lodged a strong protest with Pakistan counterparts on Tuesday.

Indian soldiers retaliated with small arms, he said adding that there was no casualty in the exchange of fire.

Pakistan has violated the 2003 ceasefire along the border for the 11th time this year.

The last ceasefire violation took place on February 24 when Pakistani troops fired rockets and opened indiscriminate firing on Indian posts along International Border in Samba district and injured a BSF jawan.
