Four suspected Naxalites were arrested in Jhargram, West Bengal, on Wednesday for their alleged involvement in the Gyaneshwari train derailment which claimed 148 lives and left over 200 injured.

Official sources said Central Reserve Police Force personnel belonging to 202 Battalion of Special Action Force along with local police picked up eight people on suspicion from Guimera village under Jhargram police station.

The interrogation of Lalto Mahto, Dilip Mahto, Ashit Mahto and Kamlesh Mahto revealed that they were active local squad members and had provided administrative support to the group of Maoists, who had tampered with the railway track that led to the derailment of the Mumbai-bound train, they said.

Thirteen coaches of Howrah-Kurla Lokmanya Tilak Gyaneshwari Super Deluxe Express had derailed last Friday with five of its bogies being hit by a goods train coming from the opposite direction on the parallel track.
