Four Sashastra Seema Bal troopers, including an assistant commandant, were killed and two others injured on Monday when suspected militants belonging to the proscribed National Democratic Front of Bodoland waylaid their vehicle near the India-Bhutan border

The personnel belonged to the SSB's 15th battalion and were posted in a new border outpost (BoP) along the Bhutan border.

A source informed that the SSB vehicle came under heavy firing in a thickly forested area about 40 km from Bijni town in Chirang district at around 1145 hours.

The slain SSB men were identified as Assistant commandant Kishore Konal, sub-inspector Pratap Singh, constable Amit Kumar Tiwari and driver H Sherpa.

The injured included one head constable and one constable. Another SSB constable managed to call up the company headquarter to inform about the incident.

Meanwhile, army and police have launched a massive combing operation in the area following the attack on SSB personnel. Senior police officials from Bijni have rushed to the spot.
