UPA strategy meet today, monsoon session on agenda

July 19, 2010 12:16 IST

With the Opposition gearing up to put the government on the mat on several issues, including price rise, a meeting of the United Progressive Alliance leaders will be held in New Delhi on Monday evening to deliberate on the strategy for the monsoon session of Parliament beginning next week.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi would interact with the leaders of the allies in the meeting.

The Opposition is likely to raise the issues of fuel price hike, the Bhopal gas tragedy case, unrest in Kashmir and talks with Pakistan. It is also likely to attack the government over a series of train accidents in recent months, including the one today in West Bengal.

The Opposition had given hints of working together on the issue of price rise by organising a 'Bharat Bandh' on July five.

Congress, on its part, is planning to target the BJP over the illegal mining scam in Karnataka.

The government will also have to take a view on when to bring the controversial Civil Nuclear Liability Bill.
