The Bharatiya Janata Party government has adjourned the Karnataka legislative assembly sine die to wade off the opposition protests seeking a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation into illegal mining.
Meanwhile, the opposition parties have called off the protests and have decided to hold a 'padyatra' in the near future to press their demands.
Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa on Friday called on Governor H R Bhardwaj, who is gunning for the removal of Reddy brothers from the state ministry, and conveyed the government's stand against a CBI inquiry into the illegal mining scam at this stage.
Yeddyurappa said he had told the governor that it was "not proper" to entrust the matter to CBI.
"If we do it now, it would further delay the inquiry process," he said.
Yeddyurappa said the illegal mining case is being probed by the institution of Lokyukta.
