Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Tuesday asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to expedite the visit of a central team to flood-affected areas to assess the damage. Hooda appraised Dr Singh about the flood situation in the state over the phone. The Haryana government has estimated the loss due to the floods at over Rs 1,000 crore, officials said.
The prime minister assured Hooda of all possible help to deal with the calamity. On Monday, Hooda had told reporters in Rohtak that he had been continuously in touch with the leaders at the Centre and they were being apprised with the latest flood situation. He said relief and rescue measures were going on in full swing in the state.
While the flood situation has improved in the worst-affected districts of Ambala and Kurukshetra, it continues to remain worrisome in parts of Fatehabad and Sirsa districts.
The Haryana government had last week ordered special girdawari (assessment of loss) in the flood affected areas of the state and its work had started. Similarly, a survey is also being conducted to assess the loss in the urban areas so that assistance could be provided to the flood affected people.
Hooda will visit the flood-affected areas in Sirsa and Tohana to assess the flood situation and relief and rescue measures being undertaken by the administration.
