A month after being charged with murder and rioting in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case, Congress leader Sajjan Kumar would face trial in a separate case with a Delhi court framing identical charges relating to the killing of six persons during the carnage.

Additional Sessions Judge Sunita Gupta found prima facie evidence and ordered formal framing of charges of murder, rioting and spreading enmity between two communities against Kumar and others relating to the killing of six persons in Delhi's Sultanpuri locality.

Kumar is already facing the trial for criminal conspiracy, murder and other offences in a case relating to the killing of five persons at Delhi Cantonment area during the riots.

He and others will be tried for same offences in the second case for the death of six persons at Sultanpuri during the riots that followed assassination of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on October 31, 1984.

The court had on July 1 ordered framing of charges against Kumar and four others Brahmanand Gupta, Peru, Khushal Singh and Ved Prakash in the case.

The court has fixed August 23 as the date for recording of statement in witnesses in the case.

Meanwhile, the court resumed recording of statements of witnesses in the case relating to killings of five persons at Delhi Cantonment even though Jagdish Kaur, a key witness in the case, could not appear before the court because of illness. She had lost five of her family members, including her husband, in the riots.
