All 7 convicts in Bhopal gas case get bail

A day after a session court granted bail to Keshub Mahindra, a convict in the 26-year-old Bhopal gas tragedy case, the remaining six accused were released on Friday on a bond of Rs 1 lakh each.

On June 7, all the seven people were convicted by Chief Judicial Magistrate Mohan P Tiwari in the Bhopal gas tragedy case following which they filed an appeal against the judgment in the same court.

The District and Session Judge Subhash Kakde has scheduled the hearing for the appeal on July 27.

Besides Mahindra, the other convicts in the case were the then managing director of the company Vijay Gokhle, vice president Kishore Kamdar, works manager J Mukund, production manager S P Choudhry, plant superintendent K V Shetty and an operator S I Qureshi.

They were awarded two-year sentence and a fine of Rs 1,01,750 each under different sections of the Indian Penal Code.
