The chief of Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh Mohan Rao Bhagawat said on Saturday that the Centre should hold no talks with insurgent groups in the Northeast on the country's sovereignty and integrity, as these are non-negotiable.
Bhagawat added that the government should hold talks only with groups that have shunned violence.
"The country's sovereignty and integrity is not for negotiation with any insurgent group including the banned United Liberation Front of Assam."
Talking to the media in Guwahati, the RSS chief said, "The Northeastern region is very crucial for the country from strategic point of view and there was no alternative to detecting, deleting and deporting illegal migrants staying in the region as per the provisions of the Foreigners Act and Supreme Court directive."
He said the unabated illegal migration from Bangladesh to Northeastern states, especially Assam, was a threat to the integrity of the country and expressed dissatisfaction over the action taken so far by successive governments to check illegal migration from across the border.
He said political leaders must take strong action to check illegal migration over the 'vote bank politics', and that people should also keep sustained pressure on the government to act against illegal migration.
"We have a two-pronged strategy to make people aware about grave threat posed by conversion and illegal migration to their identity and culture besides chipping in towards economic uplift of the people in general so that they could neither be lured nor forced to get converted," he said further.
