Anil Raghuvanshi, one of the two men accused in the rape of a nine-year-old Russian girl in Goa, was arrested on Friday, said the police. Raghuvanshi had allegedly engaged the victim's mother in a conversation while the crime was being committed.
Raghuvanshi, who was in his thirties, was arrested from a bus stop in Panaji, said Deputy Inspector General of Police Ravindra Yadav.
He is one of the two accused involved in the case while the main accused, Aman Bharadwaj, is still at large, Yadav said.
The police are trying to find out if Raghuvanshi is merely an accomplice or he was also involved in the crime. Raghuvanshi hails from Madhya Pradesh's Hoshangabad district, Yadav said.
The Russian girl, holidaying in Goa with her mother, was allegedly raped by Aman Bharadwaj on Arambol beach on January 26. His accomplice Raghuvanshi diverted the mother's attention by striking up a conversation with her.
