January 25, 2010 13:42 IST

Bihar has been put on a high alert and security personnel have been asked to maintain a hawk-eyed watch on all vital installations of the central and state governments on the eve of Republic Day on Monday.

"We have alerted all the police stations and special security attention is being paid to protect installations of the state and central governments across the state," said Additional Director General of Police (Headquarter) U S Dutt.

Security measures have also been tightened along the Indo-Nepal border in Bihar, Dutt said, adding that senior officials are thoroughly analysing intelligence inputs.

Recently, the state police had arrested Gulam Rasool alias Mirza Khan, an Al Qaeda militant, from Purnia, when he was planning to sneak into Bangladesh using the Nepal border.

"We are aware of the situation arising out of the recent arrest of suspected terrorists and top ranking leaders of the proscribed Communist Party of India - Maoist," he said.
