Muslim MLAs demand Amar Singh's expulsion

January 11, 2010 13:56 IST

A group of Muslim MLAs of the Samajwadi Party on Monday demanded expulsion of senior leader Amar Singh from the party, accusing him of damaging the interests of the organisation.

"Mulayam Singh Yadav should accept the resignation of Singh from party posts and also expel him from the party," SP MLA from Amroha Mehboob Ali told reporters.

Ali said Singh has damaged the credibility of the party and is not accessible to the leaders. To a question of party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav ruling out accepting Amar Singh's resignation, the MLA said he was yet to discuss the issue at a party platform.

The other MLAs who demanded Amar's expulsion from the party included Iqbal Mehmood from Sambal, Sahid Manzoor from Kithor in Meerut district, SP's youth wing president from Meerut Wasim Raja and former district president of Moradabad unit Javed Khan.

On Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt and Bhojpuri actor Manoj Tiwari quitting party posts, they said, "Mandali (group) came together and would leave together".

Asked if they would welcome Amar Singh at the ongoing Saifai Mahotsav at Ettawah, they said he was free to attend as he likes the company of Bollywood stars.

Amar Singh is the chief guest on the last day of the Saifai Mahotsav this year where film actors are expected to join the Bollywood Nite.
