The Bharatiya Janata Party's National Executive and Council meeting scheduled for February has the organisation's top brass worried about their well-being during the three-day meet as party president Nitin Gadkari has decided that all leaders will stay in tents and not in luxury hotels.

The BJP's top leaders as well as members of the state units from across the country who will assemble in Indore from February 17 to 19 will have to stay in tents, according to sources. While no leader has till now expressed dissent over this decision, there are murmurs of how this arrangement would cause severe inconvenience.

"About 1,200 delegates will take part in the national council. To put them in tents which will be removed after three days may actually not be an austerity measure as a lot of money would be wasted when the tents are removed," said a senior BJP MP.

Others are worried about the weather and how it would be difficult to cope with the winters, though the cold in Indore in February is expected to be bearable inside the tents. Some have voiced concern over presence of mosquitoes while most are worried about toilets and hygiene in these tents. However, sources said though these tents will not be the luxurious kind they will have good toilets and proper beds.

This is not the first time BJP leaders will live in modest conditions. The national council in 1980, 1995 and 2005 (all in Mumbai) saw senior leaders, including Atal Bihari Vajpayee and L K Advani, living in tents.
