February 19, 2010 23:58 IST

Dalbhumgarh Block Development Officer Prashant Kumar Layek, who was released by Maoists on Friday evening, said they had "treated him well and served their food".

The BDO, whom the Maoists released at Hadian village in extremist-hit Ghorabandha police station, reached Ghatsila on Friday evening amid tight security.

Layek, who looked tired, told journalists that he was "looked after well, properly treated and served the food the Maoists used to eat".

"They never misbehaved with me and more than a dozen Maoist guerrillas took care," he said.

Layek, who was abducted from his office chamber at Dalbhumgarh in Ghatsila sub-division on Saturday, said, "I would continue with development work."

He was accompanied by Superintendent of Police of East Singhbhum district Navin Kumar Singh.

"After reaching Ghatsila, he was first taken to Director's Bungalow for a while and then to his home," Sub-Divisional Officer of Ghatsila Sunil Kumar said.

Expressing happiness over Layek's release, Deputy Development Officer Sitaram Bari, who is president of Jharkhand Administrative Services Association, east Singhbhum unit, said, "JASA has called off work boycott with immediate effect."

JASA members, who went on indefinite mass leave till Layek was safely released, will resume work from Saturday, he said.
