Two terrorists of the Jaish-e-Mohammad outfit were gunned down by the security forces in a day-long gunfight in the south Kashmir's Shangarpora village, 37 kms from summer capital Srinagar in Pulwama district.
A senior police officer told rediff.com that police and Rashtriya Rifles troops had surrounded a house in the Shangarpora village late on Wednesday evening following information that a group of JeM terrorists were hiding there.
As the security forces challenged the holed up militants to surrender, they opened fire at the surrounding troops, triggering an encounter that ended late on Thursday afternoon.
"Both the militants identified as Javed Ahmad Hajam and Sajad Ahmad belonging to the JeM outfit were killed in the gunfight. Searches are still continuing at the encounter site," the officer said.
The house in which the militants were holed up was completely destroyed in the gunfight.
Two militants of the same outfit were killed in a daylong encounter in north Kashmir Baramulla district on Thursday.
