Two top militants of Hizbul Mujahideen were killed on Friday, in a gunbattle with security forces in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, police officials said.
Acting on a tip off, police assisted by security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Kandi Kalal area of the district on Friday afternoon, they said, adding an encounter ensued after the militants fired on the operation party. Two terrorists of the Hizbul Mujahideen, identified as Jan Nisar and Chechai, were killed, they said.
Chechai was a self-styled area commander operating in the district for past three years, the officials said. Two AK series rifles and explosive material were recovered from the slain terrorists, they said.
