Last updated on: February 5, 2010 14:31 IST

Over 40 Shiv Sena activists were detained in different parts of Mumbai for protesting against the visit of Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi on Friday.

The Maharashtra government is leaving no stone unturned to ensure security for Rahul Gandhi, who has proceeded to address a youth congress function at Ghatkopar after attending another meeting in the Ville Parle area in the city.

The Mumbai Police had earlier sent notices to Shiv Sena leaders across Mumbai not to indulge in any illegal activity on Friday.

State Chief Minister Ashok Chavan and other party bigwigs received Gandhi at the Mumbai airport. Sources said a chopper took him to the Pawan Hans Veledrone in Ville Parle area where he addressed a Youth Congress function.

Mumbai Police Commissioner D Sivanandan said all precautions were taken to ensure that Rahul Gandhi's programmes passed off peacefully. Shiv Sena activists greeted Gandhi's arrival in city with black flags in protest against his "Mumbai for all Indians" remark.
